> Petra's rose-red city, Wadi Rum under the stars and floating in the Dead Sea

## Overview

Jordan is compact, Muslim-majority and full of things that are genuinely worth the flight: Petra carved into rose-red sandstone, Wadi Rum's desert under very dark skies, the Dead Sea, and Roman Jerash an hour from the capital. Because halal is the default and mosques are everywhere, the logistics are simple — which leaves the whole trip free for the actual sightseeing.

## Why Jordan works for Muslim travellers

- **Halal by default** — A Muslim-majority country where halal is the norm and no alcohol comes into the group environment.
- **Petra, properly** — Entered through the Siq at opening time, before the heat and the crowds.
- **Wadi Rum at night** — A desert camp selected for quiet and a proper prayer space, with genuinely dark skies.
- **Compact and calm** — Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and Amman all within a few hours' drive of each other.

## Top experiences

- Petra: the Siq, the Treasury and the Monastery
- Wadi Rum: a jeep circuit and a night in the desert
- The Dead Sea: floating, and the lowest point on land
- Jerash: one of the best-preserved Roman cities outside Italy
- Amman: the citadel and the King Abdullah I Mosque

## Halal food and prayer

Jordan is Muslim-majority and halal is the norm across the country, including at the desert camps. We still check every property for an alcohol-free environment.

Mosques are in every town and at rest stops on the desert highway, and prayer times are public. Camps stop for Maghrib and Fajr.

## Best time to go

March to May and September to November. Summer is very hot in Petra and Wadi Rum; winter nights in the desert are genuinely cold.

## FAQ

**Is Jordan easy for halal food?**
Yes. Jordan is Muslim-majority and halal is the norm, including at the desert camps we use.

**How physically demanding is Petra?**
The walk through the Siq to the Treasury is flat and easy; the climb up to the Monastery is roughly 800 steps and optional.
