Spain

Eight centuries of Al-Andalus — the Mezquita, the Alhambra and halal food that's easier than you think

Spain — halal-friendly small-group travel

Andalusia is the part of Europe where Islamic history is not a footnote: the Mezquita of Córdoba, the Alhambra in Granada, the Giralda in Sevilla, and eight centuries of architecture, irrigation and food that stayed behind. It is also the part of Europe where halal food needs genuine planning outside the big cities. That planning is most of what we do here — we route each day around verified halal kitchens and prayer rooms so you spend the trip looking at the Alhambra instead of reading menus.

Why Spain works for Muslim travellers

The four things that actually decide whether a destination is comfortable — food, prayer, the group, and the guide.

Islamic heritage, front row

The Mezquita of Córdoba, the Alhambra and Generalife in Granada, and the Giralda in Sevilla — all in one region.

Halal food, pre-planned

Solid halal scenes in Madrid, Barcelona, Granada and Córdoba; thinner elsewhere. We route each day around verified kitchens.

Prayer rooms in the big cities

Mosques and prayer rooms in Madrid, Barcelona, Granada, Sevilla and Córdoba, plus quiet arrangements on the road.

Small group, English-speaking

16 travellers maximum, so the Albaicín and the souk-like streets of Córdoba stay pleasant rather than a crowd.

Top experiences

  • ✓Córdoba: the striped double arches of the Mezquita and the Jewish Quarter
  • ✓Granada: the Alhambra, the Generalife gardens and the Albaicín
  • ✓Sevilla: the Alcázar, the Giralda and flamenco in Triana
  • ✓Madrid: Gran Vía, Retiro and the city's halal restaurants
  • ✓Ronda and the white villages of the Sierra Nevada foothills

Halal food & prayer

Halal food exists in Madrid, Barcelona, Granada, Sevilla and Córdoba, and gets thin in small Andalusian towns. We plan each day's meals in advance, and seafood and vegetarian dishes are always available as a backup.

Best time to go

April to June and September to October. July and August in Andalusia regularly hit 40°C and the Alhambra is at its most crowded.

Questions people ask about Spain

Is halal food available in Andalusia?

Yes in the cities — Córdoba, Granada, Sevilla and Madrid all have established halal restaurants. In small towns it needs planning, which is why we route meals in advance.

Can we pray inside the Alhambra or the Mezquita?

The Mezquita of Córdoba is a working cathedral and prayer is not arranged inside; the Alhambra has no prayer room. We schedule mosque stops in the city around each visit.
